Mayor's 100

“The Mayor’s 100 mentors share real world experiences.  They tell our students about the level of education and type of skills needed to be competitive in today's economy. Students learn firsthand how to land a job and begin a successful career. Connecting professionals to students is more than a mentoring experience -- It is an empowering experience.”

Mayor A C Wharton, Jr.
The Mayor’s 100 is a mentoring team of volunteers from both the public and private sectors. They are our leaders, our organizers, our educators, our practitioners, and our entrepreneurs, but most importantly they are our community investors. The Mayor’s 100 is not a symbol of the number of volunteers committed, but rather a symbol of our volunteer’s level of commitment – 100%.

Mentoring Opportunities

The Mayor's 100 mentors are offered opportunities to give back to our STEP Prep students and our STEP Scholars.  Mentors sign-up to visit STEP Prep students during their required class period from 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. They conduct in-class seminars and workshops on topics including career planning, local industries, job trends, and the culture of the workplace.

The Mayor's 100 mentors also volunteer to coach last dollar scholarship recipients attending Southwest Tennessee Community College or the Tennessee Technology Center at Memphis. Mentors are assigned a Scholar for one year. During that period, mentors invite their Scholar to "shadow" them at work for one day. Scholars have the opportunity to experience the operations of the workplace and learn more about our local industries. All other connections are online through STEP Mentoring.
